Rev. Ann Kansfield

Rev. Ann Kansfield is a UCC minister who serves as a pastor at the Greenpoint Reformed Church and as a chaplain with the Fire Department of the City of New York. She’s energetic, humorous, and entertaining — and also very serious about the ministry of the gospel.

Ann is the first female chaplain, and first openly-LGBTQ chaplain, of the FDNY. A preacher’s kid, Ann grew up in church and swore she would never become a minister–until 9/11 changed all that. In 2015, Ann was given the inaugural “New Yorker of the Year” Award by the New York Times–selected over famous local celebrities like Lin-Manuel Miranda, The NY Mets (yes, the entire team!), and Pizza Rat.

She lives a block from Times Square with her wife and their two middle school aged children. Not surprisingly, their apartment can become a little loud at times. Ann is the author of Be the Brave One: Living Your Spiritual Values Out Loud and Other Life Lessons, a collection of ministry adventures told around the theme of living out one’s spiritual values.
