More than 100 years of worship services ended earlier than expected at Peace UCC, Webster Groves, Mo.

While members of the congregation had planned their last worship service to be Christmas Eve before making a final move to Eden Theological Seminary, it ended up being Palm Sunday April 2.

A busted water main, a broken boiler, and a hole in the roof hastened the final move — one approved a year ago when Peace UCC decided to sell the church building and property and partner with Eden in a new vision of “Being the Church” in the 21st century.

So, members gathered at the old property for a brief service before marching along East Lockwood with palms, church artifacts, and Black Lives Matter flags to their new place of worship. Rev. Wendy Bruner preached outside in the quadrangle with a regular service held in Wherli Chapel at Eden.
