“Christian Nationalism; What is it and Should We Be Worried,” by John Russell, Parkway UCC, St. Louis

January 12, 2025 @ 11:15 am - 12:15 pm

All are welcome. Come to worship service if you like, which starts at 10:00 AM and ends in an hour. Then you can grab a cup of coffee and a tasty donut and join us for an entertaining and educational program by that Sunday’s speaker in our Heritage Room.

The Parkway Speakers Series customarily has two programs each month on Sundays following worship. Our topics include a wide array of subjects, some religious, most not as much. We have had beekeepers. birders, and naturalists, judges, public servants, an Amazon supervisor, a transman, journalists, foreign students, doctors, AI experts, biblical scholars, historians, paroled convicts, federal prosecutors, public defenders, authors, poets, sociologists, genealogy consultants, and scientists. Information about upcoming programs may be accessed via our website at www.parkwayucc.org.

John Russell, a long time Parkway member, is a bright, creative scholar, who has presented a number of Speakers Series programs over the years to wide acclaim. We always welcome learning about his next interest. This time its something called Christian Nationalism, which is if nothing else controversial. Its followers seek to establish an exclusive version of Christianity as the dominant moral and cultural order. In countries with a state church, Christian nationalists seek to preserve the status of a Christian state. What? Can that be happening in America? Apparently so.
