Youth Ministry Coordinator
General Description
St John United Church of Christ in St Charles, MO seeks a leader for its successful Youth Ministry Program who can inject new energy and ideas to help the program grow and thrive. This person will work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor, Church Engagement Coordinator, and the Children’s Ministry Coordinator to provide a holistic faith experience for youth.
· Lead Bible study and small groups for youth on Sunday mornings year-round.
· Lead an evening topic-based program between September and May.
· Organize and lead a youth outing or activity each month.
· Organize and lead summer mission trips.
Rate: $22-25/hour
Hours: 15 hours/week with an opportunity for growth
Required Qualifications
· Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to be self-directed.
· Excellent planning and execution skills.
· Practiced communication skills in a variety of media. Timely communication is a must.
· A passion for helping youth develop a personal faith that translates into daily life.
· Ability to build strong relationships with youth while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
· Be a person of deep personal faith who is welcoming of all youth.
Principal Responsibilities
1) Plan and lead existing Sunday morning Bible Study.
2) Re-envision and implement small groups that encourage spiritual growth.
3) Lead an event each month alternating between social and mission-oriented programs.
4) Work with other staff to plan and implement mission trips or in-town mission work.
5) Provide a written monthly report to the Board of Christian Education and participate in monthly meetings.
6) Understand and appreciate the theology and practices of the United Church of Christ, including St John’s Open and Affirming Policy.
7) Encourage youth participation in wider church events and camps.
8) Engage parents, staff and volunteers to deepen and expand the program in ways that adhere to St John’s safe church policy.
Additional Information
Participation in summer Youth Mission Trips will be an additional compensation at a flat rate per trip.
Final candidate must pass a criminal background check and screening in accordance with St. John’s policies, have a driving record that allows for transportation of youth, and complete a compensated safe-church training before starting work.
