More than 50 women from across the Conference enjoyed the Women’s Retreat at Camp MoVal May 3-5, the first weekend in May. A team from Zion UCC, Union, Mo. planned this year’s retreat, focusing on the theme “God’s World, Handle with Care.”

Caring for God’s world while presenting hope for the future of the Earth and everything in it.

Featured speakers were Jody Miles, co-executive director of Earth’s Classroom, and Parvi Acosta, biology professor at East Central College, Union, Mo. They engaged with participants on earth-friendly living and climate change and its impact on the environment and diversity.

Eco-friendly interest groups included making upcycled crafts, participating in a Green Bible study, learning about electric vehicles, and gardening for pollinators.

A display of earth-friendly products helped all learn about sustainable alternatives to plastic. Participants had the opportunity to shop at Eden Bookstore, Life of Riley Farm, and the Wobus Craft Center at Shannondale.

Exploring God’s creation and working together to recognize each of us can do something to care for God’s world.

The retreat also provided time for singing, kayaking, hiking at night, completing service projects, and going on a hayride.  Concluding Sunday morning with an earth-centered worship service, the retreat divided a worship service offering between Camp MoVal and Earth’s Classroom. Women also brought requested hygiene products to be distributed afterwards to various shelters and food pantries throughout the Conference.

Women from St. Peter’s UCC, Ferguson, Mo. have volunteered to plan the MMSC Women’s Retreat for 2025.
