The church’s simple beginnings started with seven employees of the Evangelical Childrens Home (ECH) in 1929. Of course, Calvary was not UCC then. The Home Mission Board of the Evangelical Synod of North America asked Rev. Austin Schultz to research the need for a church in the part of town where Calvary’s original sancutary is at 8836 Graceland Ave., St. Louis, Mo.
