After graduating from McKendree University in 2014 with a degree in Marketing\, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2016\, serving as a photojournalist until 2020.\n\nIt was during and after his time in the Air Force that Gabriel increasingly sensed God calling him toward ministry. For him\, that calling was not a single dramatic moment\, but more like the dawning of the sun—God’s light gradually leading him toward a life of ministry: accompanying people through their darkest moments\, celebrating with them in their joys\, and walking alongside them through all the seasons of life.\n\nIn 2021\, Gabriel began studying at Eden Theological Seminary\, earning his Master of Divinity in 2024. During seminary\, he discovered the United Church of Christ and found in the UCC a theological home that deeply resonated with his understanding of faith and ministry.\n\nSince then\, Gabriel has served in a variety of ministries\, including his work at Parkway United Church of Christ in St. Louis\, where he served in Christian Education\, administration\, building management\, and as a licensed minister. In June 2026\, he was approved for ordination pending a call. And in August\, he was called to serve as the next Senior Pastor of Immanuel UCC\, in Sedalia\, MO.\n\nHe enjoys running\, reading\, playing board games\, going to the movies\, and binging movies and shows with his wife\, Shaine\, and spending time with his dogs\, Nebula (Shiba Inu) and Beau (Heeler mix).\n  \n

SUMMARY:Speaker Series: "The Economics of Immigration\," by Jon Haveman\, Parkway UCC\, Town & Country
DESCRIPTION:Immigration can give substantial economic benefits – a more flexible labor market\, greater skills base\, increased demand and a greater diversity of innovation. However\, immigration is also controversial. There is a debate about whether immigration of unskilled workers leads to downward pressure on wages and even unemployment of native workers. Here to help sort these issues out is Jon Haveman\, an expert on the economics of immigration.. Jon may surprise us about the true economics of immigration\, helping to dispel myths and untruths about this controversial and timely topic \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is one of Parkway’s acclaimed Speakers Series program and all are welcome from the Missouri Mid-South Conference community.\n\n\n\n  \nThe speaker will appear live in Parkway’s Heritage Room.

SUMMARY:"Christian Nationalism; What is it and Should We Be Worried\," by John Russell\, Parkway UCC\, St. Louis
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome. Come to worship service if you like\, which starts at 10:00 AM and ends in an hour. Then you can grab a cup of coffee and a tasty donut and join us for an entertaining and educational program by that Sunday’s speaker in our Heritage Room. \nThe Parkway Speakers Series customarily has two programs each month on Sundays following worship. Our topics include a wide array of subjects\, some religious\, most not as much. We have had beekeepers. birders\, and naturalists\, judges\, public servants\, an Amazon supervisor\, a transman\, journalists\, foreign students\, doctors\, AI experts\, biblical scholars\, historians\, paroled convicts\, federal prosecutors\, public defenders\, authors\, poets\, sociologists\, genealogy consultants\, and scientists. Information about upcoming programs may be accessed via our website at www.parkwayucc.org.\n\n\n\nJohn Russell\, a long time Parkway member\, is a bright\, creative scholar\, who has presented a number of Speakers Series programs over the years to wide acclaim. We always welcome learning about his next interest. This time its something called Christian Nationalism\, which is if nothing else controversial. Its followers seek to establish an exclusive version of Christianity as the dominant moral and cultural order. In countries with a state church\, Christian nationalists seek to preserve the status of a Christian state. What? Can that be happening in America? Apparently so.

SUMMARY:Speaker Series\, Parkway UCC\, St. Louis\, MO
DESCRIPTION:Come and Hear the Story of Juan Gonzalez\nOn April 9\, 2019\, Juan walked out of prison after 29 years. He calls that Chapter One. It started when he was incarcerated at age 17. Sentenced to die in prison as a child\, his father’s deep faith sustained him.\n\nFollowing the Supreme Court decisions that made his automatic juvenile life without parole sentence unconstitutional\, the Philadelphia-based Youth Sentencing and Reentry Program (YSRP) stepped in to help Juan prepare for his resentencing hearing  The mission of YSRP is to keep children out of adult jails and prisons\, and to bring home people\, like Juan\, who were sentenced as children to life in prison without the possibility of parole (“Juvenile Lifers“).\n\nFinally\, the Philadelphia District Attorney recommended to the Court time served. Juan’s freedom became a real possibility. Juan’s parents were there as he walked out into his life’s second chapter. He soon found work\, lived with his parents for his first two years at home\, and bought a new car and his own home. Chapter Two\, the transition\, went well. Juan made his life about “showing people who I am\, not what I’ve been through.”\n\nAs Juan grows older\, he knows there is a lot of life ahead: “I did 30 years\, but they didn’t do me.” On to Chapter Three.
